Obama defeated by "church, football and Halloween"
Well, that's the excuse, at least. For what the New York Times describes as a "thin crowd" at a rally in Cleveland:
CLEVELAND — President Obama wrapped up a weekend of last-minute campaigning in Ohio on Sunday, addressing Democrats in an indoor arena that, in a sign of the “enthusiasm gap” that the president is working so hard to close, was little more than half full.
About 8,000 people attended the Democratic National Committee’s Moving America Forward’ rally at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center, a hall where the capacity is 13,000. The rafters were largely empty.

The following has been up as a lead story on my Yahoo! homepage for over 12 hours. It is truly bizarre, and I will reprint it in full below:

HARTFORD, Conn. – Connecticut fans of World Wrestling Entertainment say Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon's ties to the company won't guarantee their votes on Election Day.
Pro wrestling fanatics in Hartford on Saturday said the former WWE CEO's campaign has no bearing on their enjoyment of the WWE. The company was in Hartford's XL Center for Fan Appreciation Day.
McMahon is running against Democratic state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal for the seat of retiring Democratic U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd. A recent poll showed Blumenthal leading McMahon.
WWE representatives say the weekend show wasn't about rallying voters. They say it was held to thank fans for supporting the company despite what they call unfair attacks on its image from state Democrats and the media.
That's it. Not a single person quoted in the story to back up their headline, not even anonymously. As a matter of fact, even their generalized statements do not indicate that WWE fans are planning to vote against Linda McMahon, only that her status of CEO of the WWE will not affect their vote.
Is it possible people are going to vote for her based on her positions, or against Dick Blumenthal based on his irresponsible public statements claiming non-existent service in Vietnam? I'm starting to believe that is the more likely scenario, and AP writers, desperate for a way to discredit and smear Linda McMahon (have you seen what the Alaskan media has stooped to to "get" Joe Miller?), put up their misleading headline in the hopes to embarrass her, while simultaneously hoping nobody clicked through to the non-story?
Maybe this piece will be fleshed out. But it's been posted for almost 14 hours now, with no changes. Is this the best the AP can do to stop the oncoming Republican wave?
Cheap. Dirty. Unprofessional. Blatantly partisan.
In other words, everything we've come to expect from the mainstream media...

One sign had Hitler mustaches on pictures of Sarah Palin, Eric Cantor, Glenn Beck and John Boehner. The message said, “Afraid yet?” This is particularly insulting to Cantor, who is Jewish and in line to become House Majority Leader if Republicans win next week.

Ask Joseph Cao What Obama Means By "Bipartisanship"
A softly-spoken, diminutive man who hates glad-handing and is too shy to ask people to vote for him, Cao is the antithesis of the bomb-throwing Tea Party candidate. A centrist, no Republican in the House of Representatives has proved more willing to work with the White House.
Talking about Obama, Cao sounds mournful, recalling how he had been invited to watch the Super Bowl with him (he missed it because he was caught in a blizzard) and had attended the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House. The last time the men spoke, he said, was when Mr Obama shouted out "Good to see you Joe" at a bill-signing ceremony in July.
But when I ask him about Obama's attempts at bipartisanship, there was a flash of indignation. "He did talk about that," Cao responds. "So I'm wondering why he endorsed my opponent and made an advertisement for him."
As of last week, Richmond was the only candidate in the country for whom Obama cut a television ad. That was Cao's reward for his attempts at bipartisanship in Washington.
Pity Joseph Cao, he offered a drink to an alcoholic who promised it would be his last, then got slashed with the empty bottle. The president promises every day will be his last angry day, and that now is the time to move forward in a bi-partisan fashion, and every night he staggers home in a drunken rage.

It was cloud and few showers and 5 degrees.The Halloween Hustle at Kensington Farmers Market.
The out and back course on Confederation Trail.
I wore "Rain Man" costume this year.
Aron Croken won the race and Jennifer Pizio-Perry for the top female.
I finished in 19:53 and came in 3rd out of 120 runners.

Stephen Brun/Journal Pioneer Owen Turner, 10, looked every bit like New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning at the Halloween Hustle 5K in Kensington. He was narrowly edging out Kristie Moase with his run into the end zone.
The Halloween Hustle 5-kilometre run left from Kensington on Saturday with a number of costumed runners taking part. The annual Hustle is a fundraiser for the IWK and Kensington Fit Place.
Aaron Croken was the top finisher in the annual fundraising race with a time of 18:42.
West Prince native Jennifer Pizio-Perry was the first female runner across the finish line with a time of 20:48.

It was a terrible model to make, heavy mold lines, lots of flash, parts of the model where the metal had not formed and a lot of holes where I do not think there should be anyway, which with application of green stuff and copious superglue I put it together and took a picture.One of the engine pieces developed metal fatigue and the plug that inserts into the body fell off which required green stuff.
There were no instructions(you do not always get them) so I used a picture from the website to use as a guide, there is no flying stand(you do not always get them) but that model in the picture appears to be in better condition than mine in my opinion.Now I am not the best model maker in the world but this has annoyed me and I will try and sort out the problems with it and probably still use it.What i am trying to say is am I too fussy and would you accept bad quality in any model you purchased.

I found this to be depressingly illuminating:
Journalists are practically giddy in anticipation of this weekend's Jon Stewart rally on the National Mall. The Rally's staff has recieved more than 1,000 requests for press credentials for the event. Only 400 were given out.
Those statistics underscore just how much the media loves Stewart's leftist message (and it is a leftist message). For some perspective, consider that the September 12, 2010 Tea Party on the Mall received roughly 150 requests for press credentials, according to FreedomWorks, which sponsored the event.
Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally granted 450 such credentials to journalists, but in the brief contact NewsBusters had with Beck's staff there was no indication that any reporter who had requested credentials had been turned down.
The mainstream media are Stewart fans. They have no interest in Glenn Beck, save to savage him personally without having watched him. Of course, in theory their job is to cover the news - and Beck's rally was certainly more newsworthy than a comedian's puerile self-aggrandizing - but as we have seem for some time, the media only covers the news that they like, and either demonize or ignore anything that runs counter to their worldview. Odd behavior for a profession once honored for being doggedly in pursuit of truth, a profession our Founders counted on to keep The Powers at bay...
Well, Beck drew approximately 300,000 to the Mall. Let's see how many folks are equally enamored of Stewart's sneering message of ennui and liberal condescension. When they announce the crowd totals, let's be sure to separate out the media contingent...

I love that my generation has embraced wholeheartedly the “censorship through ridicule” doctrine so adroitly expressed by The Daily Show and its weirdly rage-filled (and not in a satirical way) spinoff with Colbert, but no matter how funny you find everything when you’re hitting the bong after a long day at the DMV, that crap is no substitute for substantive news and information. When you’re 21 and still reeling from the transition from adolescence to early adulthood (or at least you should be), it’s still charming to use informal language when referring to serious, “grown-up” issues. After 25, you’re on some shaky ground in my book. After 30 . . . well, I’ve probably stopped talking to you at this point....

NJ-12: Scott Sipprelle Leads Rush Holt By 1 !!
Can one of the most despicable liberals in Congress, Rush Holt of New Jersey's CD-12, be in trouble?

According to a National Research poll just out of the field, Republican challenger Scott Sipprelle leads Democrat Congressman Rush Holt 43%-42% in New Jersey’s 12th congressional district as we head into the final weekend of the 2010 mid-term campaign. The remaining 14% are undecided.
Some additional data:
Sipprelle leads 46%-32% among self identified Independent/unaffiliated voters.
Among those who identify themselves as the most likely to turn out, Sipprelle leads 47%-41%.
Among voters who have heard of both candidates, Sipprelle leads 44%-42%.
Among voters who have formed an opinion of both candidates, Sipprelle leads 52%-40%.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has a very strong image in this district, with a 60% favorable rating and a 34% unfavorable.
Among the voters who are favorable to the Governor, Sipprelle leads Holt 66%-23%.
The generic ballot shows a five point GOP advantage, as the generic Republican leads the generic Democrat 45%-40%.
As undecided voters become late deciders this weekend and early next week, we expect the race to continue to be tight, with turnout becoming the final, crucial determining factor. But if current turnout holds and Republicans continue to exhibit an enthusiasm advantage in this district, we give the edge to Sipprelle.
In a wave year, the undecideds break for the challenger. And again, let's look at the dramatic electoral shifts in Rush Holt's two key counties in the last two years:

Democrat - Obama 148,737 48%
Monmouth Governor 2009
Republican - Christie/Guadagno 128,328 62.19%
Democrat - Corzine/Weinberg 64,315 31.17%

Christine O'Donnell...Closing The Gap?
In the last few days before an election, you have to watch the momentum as much as anything else.
Just ask one-time double-digit-deficit candidate Scott Brown. Whoops, I mean Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts....
How much does it hurt NPR to report the following:
Christine O'Donnell is surging and not just in terms of web hits owing to the controversial Gawker story about her Halloween date three years ago.
A new Monmouth University poll has the Republican now just ten points behind Democrat Chris Coons in the U.S. Senate race.
Two weeks ago, Coons' lead was about 20-percentage points over O'Donnell whose candidacy was increasingly seen as doomed by many.
But to have so much movement towards O'Donnell in a race that had appeared settled is extraordinary if this poll is capturing public sentiment accurately...
We'll stop here, as NPR continues with "It's especially remarkable given the gaffes O'Donnell has made...", at which point they repeat slanted talking points which could have come right out of Chris Coons' media guide.
But we'll give them a little sympathy here, because we know that NPR just winced having to report this story. And speaking of which:
The Gawker story, which again, hit the Web before this latest poll, appears to be creating something of a sympathy backlash for O'Donnell.
We speculated this morning that the only reason NOW & the leftist blogosphere was even showing any remorse over this incident is because they felt they could afford to, given Coons' lead in the race. If it is 10 points and dwindling, I'll bet many of those same bloggers are regretting their charitable show of support, and are wishing they just unzipped it and jumped on the pile. Oh, wait - here they go. Reverting to form.
Could be an even more interesting Tuesday than any of us can imagine...

But we'll give them a little sympathy here, because we know that NPR just winced having to report this story. And speaking of which:
The Gawker story, which again, hit the Web before this latest poll, appears to be creating something of a sympathy backlash for O'Donnell.
We speculated this morning that the only reason NOW & the leftist blogosphere was even showing any remorse over this incident is because they felt they could afford to, given Coons' lead in the race. If it is 10 points and dwindling, I'll bet many of those same bloggers are regretting their charitable show of support, and are wishing they just unzipped it and jumped on the pile. Oh, wait - here they go. Reverting to form.
Could be an even more interesting Tuesday than any of us can imagine...

Let me first say I am neither a fan of Jon Stewart (a snarkier, somewhat brighter, Joy Behar?) nor Stephen Colbert. It looks like my misgivings about Colbert were fleshed out when he recently "testified" on Capitol Hill on the plight of migrant farm workers - you know, the testimony which included his request to submit photos of his colonoscopy into the public record? That went swimmingly well, as the nation grew even further enraged at the Democrats for wasting their time on a chimp show while the nation's problems worsened. To this, the Democrats stared incredulously, wiped a laughter-induced tear from their collective cheeks, and replied "But wasn't he so funny?"
Maybe, if the business of government is a mere comedy routine. Alas for the Democrats, most Americans do not view it that way this year. But maybe we're just not smart enough to get their sophisticated sense of humor. At least that's what the Left will tell themselves, when they see nobody joining in their gales of laughter at this weekend's Colbert/Stewart "Rally to Restore Sanity".

In interviews, some people who plan to attend said it might bolster the spirits of Democrats on the eve of a midterm election that is expected to carry a surge of Republicans to Washington.
So here's what America is going to see: tens of thousands (what the Times calls "a huge crowd" - did they say that about Beck's 300K?) of young liberals, surrounded by the trappings of radical leftist propaganda, sneering at their government, laughing at their establishments, and mocking those who try to make the world a better place.

"The Great Unwashed", as Katie Couric calls us, will not be amused, only motivated. To get out on Tuesday and give a virtual kick in the pants to all the ironic liberals out there, who see comedic gold in our passions, and just desserts in our decline.

One Thing To Take Out Of The Gawker's Christine O'Donnell Piece...
...is that if you are a conservative woman - especially one running for elected office - you will be classified by the Democrats and the media in one of two ways - or, in Miss O'Donnell's case, in both.

The revolting sexual fantasy piece posted in Gawker should put paid to any naive supposition that the Left really believes in all of this "feminist" crap. The Democrats strictly believe in the empowering of women who agree with them. Should you dare to disagree, well...then you're just asking for what we're about to do to you, aren't you?
For some reason, when liberals see a Sarah Palin or a Carrie Prejean [and now a Christine O'Donnell], the impulse immediately is for the lowest road possible: not to engage them, but to defile them. Not to prove them wrong, but to humiliate them in the vilest way possible. The immediate, insatiable urge of the Left is to wreck a female adversary so completely that no one can look at them the same way; so that anyone who sees their victim will see the marks on them and turn away in disgust or openly mock with righteous venom, and to hopefully so emotionally destroy their female "enemies" that their self-esteem is ravaged, and they slink away from public life, alone and ashamed.
There's a word for this type of assault. Rape.
Yes, the assault isn't physical, but the thought process behind the rapes of Palin and Prejean are identical to that of the common street rapist: To defile, degrade, humiliate, embarrass, and make themselves feel better in the process. A broken victim is what each hopes to obtain, and neither stops the assault until the surrender is complete.
The liberal blogosphere seems to be aghast; most likely because it fears an attack this blatant, in broad daylight, might cause a "pro-O'Donnell" backlash. It appears as if even NOW can recognize a metaphorical rape when they see one; they must have had to swallow hard before they posted this piece in her defense. Still, I have to agree with K-Lo here: I wonder if they would have issued the statement if Chris Coons weren’t so ahead in the polls...

"News" to some, confirmation of reality to others, we learn today that Barack Obama's mentor, Harvard's Larry Pride, wrote a letter to the dilettante-in-chief, warning him that this Sonia Sotomayor chick was not brilliant judicial mind she claimed to be.

Bluntly put, she’s not nearly as smart as she seems to think she is, and her reputation for being something of a bully could well make her liberal impulses backfire and simply add to the fire power of the Roberts/Alito/Scalia/Thomas wing of the Court on issues like those involved in the voting rights case argued last week and the Title VII case of the New Haven firefighters argued earlier, issues on which Kennedy will probably vote with Roberts despite Souter’s influence but on which I don’t regard Kennedy as a lost cause for the decade or so that he is likely to remain on the Court.
Sotomayor could be an Obama clone. Not quite as bright as advertised, they both resort to bullying and nonsensical rhetoric when logic fails them. Sotomayor, the self-proclaimed "wise Latina", prioritizes first racially and then ideologically, rather than legally and rationally - again, much like Obama.
How's this bad choice going to affect policies in the United States for the next generation? Who knows, but long after Obama is finished, his ideology will live on in the persons of Sotomayor and Kagen, both of them philosophical doppelgangers of the president.

Angry's Honest Movie Reviews 2: The Good,The Bad and the Weird.
The Good,The Bad and the Weird came out in 2008 and is set in 1930's Manchuria and tells the story of a hunt for a treasure map(buried Qing dynasty riches) and the three main characters involvement in locating it, The Good(bounty hunter), The Bad(bandit and hitman) and the Weird(thief), involved aswell are a multitude of other characters including a large pursuing group of Manchurian Bandits and the Japanese army.This is one hell of a movie and try to watch the Korean version as the ending is better, it has a great soundtrack, good bodycount, insane action set pieces and hopefully when I say to people now have you seen the film they will go yes and it was bloody brilliant.

If they don’t agree with me on infrastructure, I’ll try to see if they agree with me on education.
We'll see. remember in the last two years, he hasn't even attempted to work with Republicans at all - shutting them out of the stimulus planning, the health care debate....hey, this is a guy who met Mitch McConnell for the first time last week!

A concern I have right now is that the main economic idea that the Republicans seem to have is continuing the tax cuts for the top 2 percent, and then a vague statement about cutting spending without identifying what those spending cuts might actually be. And I don’t know any economists who would say that’s a recipe for more job creation.
Well, actually, there are hundreds who say it is a recipe for job creation. You just ignore all of them because you're an ideologue. Are we clear on that?
And here come the tax hikes! On Social Security:
Social Security is something that can be fixed with some modest modifications that don’t impose hardships on beneficiaries who are counting on it.
And so the example that I used during the campaign was an increase in the payroll tax, not an increase -- let me scratch that. Not an increase in the payroll tax but an increase in the income level at which it is excluded.
Bullsh*tting much, Mr. President? Currently,you stop paying Social Security once you've earned approximately $108K. If the president raises it to, say, $200K, or eliminates it, working Americans will fork over thousands of dollars in additional taxes to the government - money that most of them use for Christmas shopping. But it's not a tax increase! When Obama's deficit panel proposes it, watch for the media to chant the same line, while millions of Americans who count on a 2-3 paycheck "tax holiday" to buy presents wail and gnash their teeth...
And again, he complains about American democracy, and pines for a more...European style:
And that’s a problem, because unfortunately we now have essentially a 60-vote requirement on every single issue, including trying to get judges confirmed who’ve passed through the Judiciary Committee on a unanimous basis.
...But I guess I’d make two points. The first is, I’m President and not king. And so I’ve got to get a majority in the House and I’ve got to get 60 votes in the Senate to move any legislative initiative forward.
... If we had a parliamentary system, then this critique would make sense to me because you do as much as you can to negotiate with the other side, but at a certain point you’ve got your platform and you move it forward and your party votes for it.
...But that’s not the system of government we have. We’ve got a different system. I will say that the damage that the filibuster I think has done to the workings of our democracy are at this point pretty profound. The rate at which it’s used just to delay and obstruct is unprecedented. But that’s the reality right now.
Well, maybe if her wasn't so hard-left, he could get a few Republicans to vote with him, and wouldn't have to work just to keep all 60 of his members in check. But that would be compromise, something the president talks about at length (see above) but doesn't really actively engage in...

Is Joy Behar now Sharron Angle's bitch?
Ah, those wacky liberals. I think deep in their heart, they want a Republican victory. Case in point - Joy Behar's hate-filled diatribe against Sharron Angle led to the following:

That's gotta hoit! But wait, there's more! Joy's has ginned up the female base, all right...so much so that the liberal partisan is now under attack by the very feminist groups that should support her are now condemning her. The Daily Caller reports:
Amy Siskind, president of the feminist group The New Agenda, told The Daily Caller she was appalled by Behar’s language calling it sexist and insulting.
“I think the remarks are completely and utterly unacceptable and I think she should — by tomorrow — be on the air with an apology to Sharron Angle and to the women of this country,” Siskind said. “The ‘b-word’ has no place in our national dialogue, and especially when she was using it in a very pointed way here to demean another woman.”
The president of a more conservative women’s group, The Kitchen Cabinet, Sonja Eddings Brown, was similarly distressed by The View co-host’s language, chalking her sentiment up to politics.
“We thought Joy Behar was a classier act than this,” Brown wrote in an e-mail to TheDC. “What is it that makes conservative women, who work inside and outside of the home, such a threat to liberal women like Joy? What has Sharron Angle done to deserve being described so profanely by Ms. Behar?”
More calls for an apology came from blogger Joni Hudson-Reynolds, a self-described African-American mom. Her recent post, scolding Behar for her words, has been bouncing around the Internet.
“Behar should be reprimanded for her outburst,” Hudson-Reynolds wrote. “She has a right to disagree with the positions Angle takes on the issues but calling her a bitch crosses the line that too many people are crossing.”
“She should be ashamed of herself. She truly should…And if she cannot apologize I think The View should really consider whether she is appropriate for that kind of show,” Siskind concluded.
Sorry Joni, but liberals have no shame. Nor do they have honest disagreements with those who hold opposing views. Cross the line, and the hate spews forth like polluted water from an abandoned urban fireplug. Part of the plan, don't you see, to make sure you keep your mouth shut...
What's that? You still dare to speak? Whoops. Guess Joy missed on that one as well. To repeat my opening remark, maybe she does secretly crave Republican victory next week. Maybe she epitomizes the sentiment expressed by Sideshow Bob Roberts:

NJ-3 has been a battle field all season long, and finally it looks as if ex-Eagles lineman and Republican Jon Runyon is leading one-term incumbent John Alder. Actually, it looks as if Runyon has picked up a fumble and is rumbling towards the end zone:
The lead has switched in the race for New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, according to the latest Monmouth University Poll. Republican challenger Jon Runyan now leads Democratic incumbent John Adler by 48% to 43% among likely voters in this district. In a poll released on September 30, Adler held a nominal 42% to 39% edge.
Runyan has a sizable 50% to 37% advantage among independents.
Chris Christie came out to campaign for Runyon in South Jersey the other night, and as usual, his talk is full of notable quotables. Best is how he addressed the 50-odd protesters screaming their heads off outside of the Elks Club last night:
Everyone in the room knew Christie had arrived because the protesters outside were suddenly screaming. The governor is accustomed to this and, in fact, it gives him fodder for his nearly 20-minute-long speech:

A 70+ Republican Wave ??
Hey, don't take it from me - take it from "the experts" at The Hill:
The Hill 2010 Midterm Election poll, surveying nearly 17,000 likely voters in 42 toss-up districts over four weeks, points to a massive Republican wave that, barring an extraordinary turnaround, will deliver crushing nationwide defeats for President Obama’s party.
The data suggest a GOP pickup that could easily top 50 seats (the party needs 39 for control of the House).
We didn’t even poll in about 15 districts that are already too far gone for Democrats,” said Mark Penn, whose firm, Penn Schoen Berland, conducted the poll. “So that, along with our entire series of polls, points to something in the range of a 50-seat gain for Republicans.”
Republican voters are also more likely to have made up their minds, according to the data.
The Hill’s data confirm other public polling and expert predictions, some of which put the historic wave even higher than the 52 seats Democrats lost in 1994 and the 71they lost in 1938.
70+ seats would be neat. As a fan of many teams (the Mets, the Jets) who have been perennial whipping boys, I like to see them run up the score when they're winning, with a little "payback is a bitch" smirk...

Provincial cross-country numbers up despite rain

Eric McCarthy/Journal Pioneer Maggee Fraser of Hernewood Intermediate School leads the PEISAA Source for Sports provincial cross-country midget girls' race at Mill River Provincial Park.
Despite cool, damp conditions, this year's event attracted 720 runners - an increase of 69 from last year.
"We had to deal with a bit of rain, but the course held up very well," said meet manager Paul Goguen.
West Kent runners Bridget Keedwell and Lauren Clark won their respective pre-novice girls and novice girls' races, helping their school win provincial team titles in the process.
West Kent had three runners in the top four of the novice girls' category. Summerside Intermediate won the bantam girls and boys' team titles. SIS runners Lydia Schurman and Carrie McGuire placed first and third, respectively, in bantam girls.
Jesse Annear from Montague Intermediate won the bantam boys' race.
The 2010 provincial championships, for runners in pre-novice to midget categories, were hosted by the Westisle Family of Schools.
Second year
For the second year in a row, Elm Street Elementary School in Summerside won the novice boys' team title. Eliot River's pre-novice boys, East Wiltshire's midget boys and Montague's midget girls also earned team titles.
The races for elementary-aged runners were most in demand as there were 263 runners in pre-novice (under-10) and 231 in novice (under-12).
Thomas Harper from Queen Elizabeth Elementary School in Kensington won the novice boys' race, with just one second to spare.
The race winner with the largest margin of victory was Hernewood Intermediate's Maggee Fraser. The second-place finisher in midget girls came in 44 seconds after Fraser.

Braved conditions
An estimated 2,000 spectators also braved the conditions.
"It was a great championship," Goguen commented. "All went well.
"All teachers across the Island can be very proud of all their students for competing with determination and sportsmanship."
The event was staged with the help of leadership students from Hernewood Junior High.
"These students, along with many adult volunteers, ran the competition with jobs from finish-line officials scorers, course marshals to parking cars," Goguen reported. About 50 volunteers helped stage the event.
Juvenile and senior
The juvenile and senior championships were held at Charlottetown Rural recently.
Lorena Ellis of Bluefield won the juvenile girls' race by just one second. Bluefield also won the team title.
In juvenile boys, Alex Cyr of Evangeline School posted a two-second victory while Gray and Rural tied for first in the team standings.
Westisle Composite High School's Sam Sweet captured the senior girls' race, and Rural won the team championship.
Rob MacMillan of Colonel Gray won the senior boys' event. Gray won the team title.
NJ-12: Rush Holt Humiliated At Debate With Scott Sipprelle
So how is the liberal's favorite "rocket science" doing against Republican Scott Sipprelle in New Jersey CD-12? Not good, if you believe the polls, and even worse, if you believe the reporting out of his most recent debate.
What's the worst thing you can do to a congressional liberal who supported the 2,400-page Health Care Reform Act monstrosity, with "Pelosian passion fervor"?
Mock them:
...the audience - it seems, largely local Jewish citizens in a crowd of 400-500 - at several times murmured audibly and three times they laughed aloud at silliness or obvious gaffes by the visibly irritated Holt. Now most folks - comedians, clowns and raconteurs — covet laughter, but to someone like "Respected Rush," it was the kiss of death.
How so? Well folks, whereas Holt defended his record most often by stressing what he had co-sponsored or voted for in the past two years, Mr. Sipprelle ably and incisively refuted Holt's defenses with cutting facts and more intelligent counter ideas and opinions.
Big Laughter No. 1: Holt made firm with the claim that when Obama came into office in January 2009, the nation was losing 700,000 job-workers a month (and it mounted to more than 3 million total). But he credited the sappy "stimulus" with a turnaround that suddenly created many new jobs in a recovery climb.
So Scott turned to Holt and mildly asked "How many jobs?" Holt looked stunned and stood silent for many seconds, so Scott asked again. Then Big Man of Congress seemed to wilt, squirmed a bit and meekly just said — "thousands." At that, the room roared with deserved laughter at the man of facts — not any specific number that was well researched, rehearsed or even supported by the National Chamber of Commerce, just a quiet, tiny reply after a 10-second sweat: "thousands."
....So much for the congressional expert who continued to wilt in the audience's estimation, for they laughed out loud in huge bunches at Holt's comments two more times. And yes, plus one time Mr. Sipprelle made such a cogent remark on a different subject that half the audience broke into a brief, clapping applause.
The point of my report is that the positions of Holt were indefensible, even laughable three times.
And the people of New Jersey seem to be getting it. No one talks about Holt's seat as one of the 100 that are up for grabs, but if he is being mocked in front of his "home crowd" - hundreds of Jewish liberals - than he is in way, way worse trouble than anyone on the national scene can even imagine.
And perhaps it is best if we keep it that way. Nothing like a few surprises to knock the wind out of the Democrats on Tuesday...

Peter Beinart: NPR Will Save America From Its Stupidity...
....or something to that effect. Jeez, I realize I'm not as smart as your average liberal, but I still don't see how calling everyone who doesn't agree with you "stupid" will endear them to your cause (or make them watch you on TV).
Still, maybe I'm wrong, as these guys seem so supremely self-confident about their superior intelligence. Oh, well. November 2nd is just a week from today, and we'll see if denigrating those who disagree with you translates into electoral success for the Democrats...
So here's Beinart, making his case for why Juan Williams deserved to be fired, and why NPR must survive. Apparently, it's to save us from ourselves:
...since America is increasingly buffeted by decisions made in other countries, our national ignorance is becoming a threat to our national security...folks like Palin want America to grow more and more economically integrated with other countries and they want America to keep invading them. That being the case, shouldn't we keep funding NPR, so someone can tell Americans where those countries actually are?
Hmmm...if Beinart really believes Americans are too stupid to find most nations on a map, maybe he ought to put his increasingly shrill voice towards the establishment of more charter schools, since his precious public schools apparently aren't up to the task.
One would expect, though, that Beinart's definition of idiocy isn't just localized to those who can't find "country x" on a map, however few that might be. Don't be surprised if - even were you able to point out one of Beinart's mystery nations - the tag "stupid" was still applied to you, should you see the same set of facts and dare to come to a different interpretation than that of the liberal intelligentsia...

The New York Times Sees The Electoral Steamroller...
...and finally gains insight and understanding, much like a dying man sees the light in the last few moments of his life. Too late to save him, to late to undo what has been done, the truth is revealed with tears, for all that which has been unnecessarily lost.
The State of Conservatism is the name of the Sunday book review of Scott Rasmussen and Doug Schoe's new book, MAD AS HELL: How the Tea Party Movement Is Fundamentally Remaking Our Two-Party System. The Times' Chris Caldwell first reaches some conclusions about Rasmussen - long the left's polling punching bag:
Lately, Rasmussen’s polling, more than others’, has favored Republicans. Not coincidentally, perhaps, it has picked up certain recent shifts earlier and more reliably — like the surge that won the Republican Scott Brown the late Ted Kennedy’s Massachusetts Senate seat in January.
But here is the great awakening:
It is often said in the president’s defense that Republican obstructionism left him no choice. Today, this is true — and it has put an end, for now, to the productive part of his presidency. But it was not true at the time of the stimulus in early 2009, when the president’s poll numbers were so stratospherically high that it appeared risky to oppose him on anything. Republicans certainly cannot be blamed for the way Democrats passed their health care bill. Whether or not the deal-making and parliamentary maneuvering required to secure passage was unprecedented, it was unprecedented in the era of C-Span and blogs, and many voters found it corrupt. The president’s legislative program has been bought at a huge price in public discontent.
And the light shineth:
It is vital to understand where this steamroller is coming from. According to Gallup, support for Obama has fallen only slightly among Democrats, from 90 percent to 81 percent, and only slightly among Republicans, from 20 percent to 12 percent. It is independents who have abandoned him: 56 percent approved of him when he came into office, versus 38 percent now. The reason the country is getting more conservative is not that conservatives are getting louder. It is that people in the dead center of the electorate are turning into conservatives at an astonishing rate.
The frustration and disappointment of these voters is probably directed as much at themselves as at their president. There were two ways to judge Obama the candidate — by what he said or by the company he kept. The cable-TV loudmouths who dismissed Obama right off the bat were unfair in certain particulars. This seems to be a controversial proposition, but it should not be. ...broadly speaking, the Democratic Party is the party to which elites belong. It is the party of Harvard (and most of the Ivy League), of Microsoft and Apple (and most of Silicon Valley), of Hollywood and Manhattan (and most of the media) and, although there is some evidence that numbers are evening out in this election cycle, of Goldman Sachs (and most of the investment banking profession)....the Democrats have the support of more, and more active, billionaires. Of the 20 richest ZIP codes in America, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, 19 gave the bulk of their money to Democrats in the last election, in most cases the vast bulk... Meanwhile, only 22 percent of non-high-school educated white males are happy with the direction the country is going in. The Democrats appear sincerely deluded about whom they actually represent....
The only question left, of course, it whether the Times will "go NPR" on Chris Caldwell's ass...
The State of Conservatism is the name of the Sunday book review of Scott Rasmussen and Doug Schoe's new book, MAD AS HELL: How the Tea Party Movement Is Fundamentally Remaking Our Two-Party System. The Times' Chris Caldwell first reaches some conclusions about Rasmussen - long the left's polling punching bag:
Lately, Rasmussen’s polling, more than others’, has favored Republicans. Not coincidentally, perhaps, it has picked up certain recent shifts earlier and more reliably — like the surge that won the Republican Scott Brown the late Ted Kennedy’s Massachusetts Senate seat in January.
But here is the great awakening:
It is often said in the president’s defense that Republican obstructionism left him no choice. Today, this is true — and it has put an end, for now, to the productive part of his presidency. But it was not true at the time of the stimulus in early 2009, when the president’s poll numbers were so stratospherically high that it appeared risky to oppose him on anything. Republicans certainly cannot be blamed for the way Democrats passed their health care bill. Whether or not the deal-making and parliamentary maneuvering required to secure passage was unprecedented, it was unprecedented in the era of C-Span and blogs, and many voters found it corrupt. The president’s legislative program has been bought at a huge price in public discontent.
And the light shineth:
It is vital to understand where this steamroller is coming from. According to Gallup, support for Obama has fallen only slightly among Democrats, from 90 percent to 81 percent, and only slightly among Republicans, from 20 percent to 12 percent. It is independents who have abandoned him: 56 percent approved of him when he came into office, versus 38 percent now. The reason the country is getting more conservative is not that conservatives are getting louder. It is that people in the dead center of the electorate are turning into conservatives at an astonishing rate.
The frustration and disappointment of these voters is probably directed as much at themselves as at their president. There were two ways to judge Obama the candidate — by what he said or by the company he kept. The cable-TV loudmouths who dismissed Obama right off the bat were unfair in certain particulars.
