Just finished reading this book because I never had before and for what if reasons the author gives for their being a third reich in 1964, it's also been a movie and all in all it's not a bad read.
The story begins in Nazi Germany, the Third Reich in April 1964, in the week leading up to Adolf Hitler's 75th birthday. The plot follows detective Xavier March, an investigator working for the Kriminalpolizei (Kripo), as he investigates the suspicious death of a high-ranking Nazi, Josef Bühler, in the Havel, on the outskirts of Berlin. As March uncovers more details he realises that he is caught up in a political scandal involving senior Nazi party officials, who are apparently being systematically murdered under staged circumstances. In fact, as soon as the body is identified, the Gestapo claims jurisdiction and orders the Kripo to close its investigation.
March meets with Charlie Maguire, a female American journalist who
works for The New York Times, who is also determined to investigate the case. They both travel to Zürich to investigate the private Swiss bank account of one of the murdered officials. Ultimately, the two uncover the horrific truth behind the staged murders. The Gestapo is eliminating the remaining officials who planned the Holocaust (of which the German people are not generally aware) at the Wannsee Conference of 1942. This is being done in order to safeguard an upcoming meeting of Hitler and President Joseph P. Kennedy by ensuring that the crimes of the Nazi regime are not revealed. Maguire heads for neutral Switzerland with the evidence, hoping to publish it in The New York Times. March, however, is denounced by his ten-year-old son and apprehended by the Gestapo.
I've omitted the ending as not to totally ruin the book if you haven't read it but you have it pretty much covered by the book description, the book was a good read and it gives me a basis and some far fetched but plausible reasons for why the third reich is still hanging around in 1964 including why England is an ally?
Alternative History WW2
Throughout the novel, Harris gradually explains the fictional historical developments that allowed Germany to prevail in World War II. The earliest point of divergence mentioned is that Reinhard Heydrich survives the 1942 assassination attempt in Prague which actually killed him. Shortly afterward, Germany embarks on a series of decisive victories.
The German armies on the Eastern Front are stopped at the gates of Moscow at the end of 1941, as in our history. However, the second major offensive into the Caucasus proves far more successful than it was in reality, cutting the flow of oil to the Red Army. With his armies immobilised for want of fuel, Joseph Stalin is forced to flee to the east and a rump Soviet government surrenders in 1943.
Around the same time, German intelligence (in a way never explained) learns the British have cracked the Enigma code, which is leading to the sinking of German submarines. They withdraw their submarines from the Atlantic temporarily and send false intelligence to lure the British fleet to destruction. The U-Boat campaign against the United Kingdom resumes, starving Britain into accepting a humiliating armistice in 1944. King George VI makes Canada his predominant country of residence and prominent British officials, such as Winston Churchill, follow him there in exile. Edward VIII regains the British throne at the helm of a pro-German puppet government and Wallis Simpson is his queen.
Germany tests its first atom bomb in 1946, and fires an unarmed "V-3" missile that explodes above New York City, to demonstrate Germany's ability to attack the continental United States with long-range missiles. Following this demonstration of power, the United States signs a peace treaty with Germany. This results in the Third Reich being one of the two superpowers of the world, along with the US, which defeats Japan in 1946 (a year later than in reality).
As I said far fetched but plausible (it's the beauty of a What If? campaigns), now just need to see the movie adaption and I have just started reading SS-GB by Len Deighton.

Daleks or blogging is sometimes more than just reading.
Bear with me but I will get to the point, the Dr.Who magazine recently gave away with an issue 25/28mm plastic daleks (approx 16 per issue I believe) and I said to myself I'll get some of them because they work out really cheap and it may be an avenue I will go down and basically all wargamers are hoarders. Could I find any, could I feck, even stopped a newsagent that delivers to my site and asked him to see what he could do (nothing, so he gets constantly searched now).
Anyway while commenting on the excellent blog Paul's Bods http://paulsbods.blogspot.com/ I mentioned that myself and Ray from Don't throw a 1 http://onelover-ray.blogspot.com/ were having difficulty finding some and Paul says I have spare you can have them, he had mentioned about some robots I had and how he would convert them amd lo and behold he sends me Daleks from Germany (his sister had sent them to him from the UK) and I sent him 28mm robots and the blogging world is a smaller place. (still haven't given Ray his share until he coughs up some postage LOL)
Paul's Daleks now in my possesion.

The first blog I ever followed is Vampifan's World of the Undead http://vampifansworldoftheundead.blogspot.com/ and recently he published that he had an article in the magazine Dadi &Piombo about 28mm zombie wargaming and the post can be seen here http://vampifansworldoftheundead.blogspot.com/2011/02/vampifans-views-07.html and is richly deserved, anyway he got some spare copies and if you asked for one he would post it to you free of charge, I believe I responded too late but no he had a spare one (which he was going to keep for himself as a spare as he had already given away the the 5 free ones he wanted to but no and an email later it should be in the post today or tomorrow, so I get a magazine that I read and like at no expense, the blogging world at it's best.(I owe you one Vampifan)
The magazine in question.
A couple of other mentions are about Lee from http://bigleesminipaintingblog.blogspot.com/ who we now meet at shows and he comes to wargames and is part of the Reject's now and obviously the virtual unlimited lifetime supply of apple gumdrops and other items I have won from The Happy Whisk and her quiz's at http://thehappywhisk.blogspot.com/

Games Workshop WH40K Stormraven Gunship Bodging and Comparison Pictures
....bodging a sensor/targetting array to the gunship.
Finally made my Valentines day gift ( I like making kits), this one had a few areas where things didn't fit exactly as they shoud and required bodging (angry scratchbuilding) like cutting pieces to fit but maybe it was just me. I finished it after a couple of hours over a few days and I must say it's a lovely bit of kit and will fit in well with what I want it for but I have never gotten to grips with the top mounted firing point (it just looks out of place to me) so I decided I would change it by putting something else there, hence the bodging and I must admit I like it and I moved some guns to under the wings (madness I know).
The new piece is made from 2 sensor pieces from the company Old Crow Models, a GW piece that I have no idea what it's from (was in my bits box) and something from an office board (???) but it was in the bits box. I then did some size and comparison pictures for others who might like to own this model (in it's original state probably, hope it helps and bodging is king!

Knowledge Illuminates by Tim Shorts, an RPG rules adventure.
......or just a nice guy with a passion for a bag of chips.
I will play nearly anything game or wargame related, board games, card games, wargaming, computer/games console, lobster racing etc.......but never got introduced to RPGs (role playing games) but as I say you're never too old to try anything (well almost anything).
I found Tim on his blog Gothridge Manor http://gothridgemanor.blogspot.com/ through another blog Porky's Expanse! http://theporkster.blogspot.com/ (excellent blog and a complete brain feck) and through the posts and comments you found out he was producing this adventure using the rules of Swords and Wizardy and selling it on RPGNow.com http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=87982%7B1%7D1 for $4.00, his wife is the editor and her blog is The Happy Whisk http://thehappywhisk.blogspot.com/ and is a lovely woman who bakes and has a wonder woman fixation (so do I now).
So I was given a copy of the the rule system from Tim with the idea of reviewing the rules in my hope of helping him but I would not do it if I thought something was off or wrong in my opinion. In my opinion they were excellent, they cover 15 pages, professionally put together, easy to read and the descriptions of areas like poison corridors or a goblin camp is great and descriptions of a new spell, creature etc....is the same and this is what I like and not just for this ruleset it's how people with some lines of text can conjure in your mind something that you can then see for yourself in your own mind and that is a talent, I would recommend them without conviction and I will probably source out more items like this but his blog is a good source itself.
What is wonderful to me about this is to see your name on something you sweated and poured over, is it about profit I don't think so (he gets the price of a bag of chips for everyone sold) but about his passion for the hobby. Good on him, get yourself a copy and get him a bag of chips because its only through supporting people or companies like Tim (as I have said before) that there is a gaming industry at all.
A free copy of the Swords and Wizardy rules can be found here http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=62346&filters=0_0_0_0_0&affiliate_id=1446

When is a deal not a good deal?
A while ago I bought some plastic painted figures from Japan from the company ( hlj.com) and I based them up and was going to put them on here for shits and giggles but a letter came in the door this week from Federal Express (the carrier who handled the goods) looking for £15.85 administration and duty costs because I had spent more than £18.00 on said goods. The items had come to £31.00 approx originally including Federal Express postage (good deal)..... but was it, the extra charges of 50% of the original have soured me to the whole deal (which even with the extra cost is still not bad) but it's still extracting the urine.
I know companies don't want to lose business but a warning on the webpages saying to consider the extra charges you will incur if you order over a certain amount would help but doubtful it would be done or considered. I should have known better as several years ago I had ordered from the US and got hit with a far larger charge but I put it down to the..... Ooh shiny complex (terrible wargamers disease).
So no more international orders for me, well I have posted the pictures of the models with some size and comparison pictures and at the bottom a little bit of internet bullshit about what some call hidden fees and charges.
Rant over, have yourselves a good weekend and I have been invited to a 28mm French revolutionary game on Sunday so it's not all bad except that Ray is going aswell.:D
You may be buying items from a company that appears to be UK or EU-based, or may not have checked the origin of the company at all! The reason this can be an important factor is because if you are buying products from outside the UK, you will have to pay extra undisclosed hidden fees. Customs Duty (from outside the EU) and Excise Duty (from inside the EU but not within UK) charges are applied to a vast array of items that are brought into the UK. Only a few items such as antique furniture and books are exempt from these charges.
The customs charge will apply to goods costing £7 and over, and Import VAT is applied to goods costing £18 and over. The actual charge applied varies on the item, something that can be checked out on the UK Government’s HM Revenue and Customs website.
What is the rate of duty?
The rate of duty for any given product should be the same no matter into which EU country they are imported, but may differ depending upon the country of origin. Set annually by the EU, rates run from 1st January to 31st December and are published in a Customs Tariff issued by each EU country. Duty is usually percentage based, and averages between 5-9% with extremes of nil and 85%.

28mm Unpainted Antenocitis Workshop Warthog Comparison and Size Pictures
You have probably seen these elsewhere and similar pictures but it's the one thing that I like is not just what some things look like but how they scale up to other manufactures not just what they were designed to go with, hope these help and they are lovely vehicles and will soon be painted alongside some Pig Iron MBTs for my Neo US forces. These were a present from a friend ( people who know me always know I have a figure/model wishlist) and were even made and completed aswell.
