28mm Painted Hasslefree Miniature: Tetsuhara the Sumo

Going on annual leave from today until the beginning of May so my posting and commenting will be a bit hit and run but I'll be about as I'm not really going anywhere, going to be nice doing feck all.


Sumo (相撲, sumō?) is a competitive full-contact sport where a wrestler (rikishi) attempts to force another wrestler out of a circular ring (dohyō) or to touch the ground with anything other than the soles of the feet. The sport originated in Japan, the only country where it is practiced professionally. It is generally considered to be a gendai budō (a modern Japanese martial art), though this definition is incorrect as the sport has a history spanning many centuries. Many ancient traditions have been preserved in sumo, and even today the sport includes many ritual elements, such as the use of salt purification, from the days when sumo was used in the Shinto religion. Life as a rikishi is highly regimented, with rules laid down by the Sumo Association. Most sumo wrestlers are required to live in communal "sumo training stables" known in Japanese as heya where all aspects of their daily lives—from meals to their manner of dress—are dictated by strict tradition.

28mm Painted Hasslefree Miniatures: Hazmat Team

Painted 28mm Hazmat Team from Hasslefree Miniatures, you can see another (better) painted version on Vampifan's blog http://vampifansworldoftheundead.blogspot.com/2011/04/hasslefree-hazmat-troopers.html along with versions from Copplestones Castings and EM4 Miniatures. I think I was a bit heavy with the ink on these but they are lovely figures (if a little small) but we need more poses to go with them.

28mm Painted Napoleon Bodyguard Mameluk Roustam Raza.

.....the only napoleonic figure (from Wargames Foundry) I own now from a previous foray into 28mm napoleonics and my favourite.

Napoleon formed his own Mamluk corps, the last known Mamluk force, in the early years of the 19th century, and used Mamluks in a number of his campaigns. Even his Imperial Guard had Mamluk soldiers during the Belgian campaign, including one of his personal servants. Napoleon's famous bodyguard Roustam Raza was a Mamluk who had been sold in Egypt.


Throughout the Napoleonic era there was a special Mamluk corps in the French army. In his history of the 13th Chasseurs Colonel Descaves recounts how Napoleon used the Mamluks in Egypt. In the so-called "Instructions" that Bonaparte gave to Kleber after departure, Napoleon wrote that he had already bought from Syrian merchants about 2,000 Mamluks with whom he intended to form a special detachment.

Roustam was born in Tbilisi, Georgia to Armenian parents. At thirteen Roustan was kidnapped and sold as a slave in Cairo. The Turks gave him the name Idzhahia. The sheikh of Cairo presented him to General Napoleon Bonaparte in 1798. Roustam served as a bodyguard of Napoleon until 1814, when he married Mademoiselle Douville in Dourdan, France and refused to follow the Emperor in his exile to Elba.On 7 December 1845, Roustam died in Dourdan.

28mm Painted Sengoku Period Samurai Post-Town Buildings

.........28mm Japanese post-town buildings from Oshiro Model Terrain, the buildings represent the period from 1350-1400 onwards to 1615 and beyond, bought painted back in the day when I could afford it (single), the figures are 28mm Perry Miniatures. They are part of a large sengoku samurai scenery collection I have collected over the years.

28mm Dr. Erwin Friedman and actually listed as Mad Scientist and is from the Chronoscope range from Reaper Miniatures, part of my doctors and scientists figures and the ones to blame in any scenario.

28mm painted hasslefree miniature called Beach Babe Libby, it's not easy painting a tiny bikini, I justify the figure as a zombie lure or as a human version of the judas goat (leads the unwary into somewhere where they don't come out of again maybe).

I have no idea which part of my mind this came from, some pieces from the bits box, a small ebay purchase and a 28mm cargo container from my modern scenery range and hey presto madness. Fun to try and make things work and I like how it turned out but it is a bit over the top but that bodging for you. There is also some tau parts, 1/48th scale WW2 engine and sandbag parts but mostly WH40K ork parts.
