Bubba Tells A Whopper

In his first press conference in his unprecedented third term as president of the United States, Bill Clinton reminded some folks why they liked him:

On cable TV, Mr. Clinton’s presence in front of the blue backdrop with the White House logo was familiar, as were the wagging finger and the occasional bitten lip...

...while reminding other folks why they were happy to see him go:

He stretched credulity on a question about the deficit when he called himself a "depression-era kid." (Clinton was born during the postwar baby boom in 1946).

There he goes again. Just a little white lie, I suppose. Like so many he told in his first two terms as president (some before a grand jury). In front of a press corps who had to restrain themselves from applause and genuflection. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose...

So who's going to give the State of the Union address in February? Will it be Barack, or will he once again "gracefully cede" the stage, as he did yesterday, to go partying?

Bitten lip and wagging finger, or upraised nose and churlish peevishness? Pick your Democratic poison, America...
