MAC Prêt-à-Papier Nail Lacquers

The MAC Prêt-à-Papier collection features two lacquers, one is a light brown with a teensy amount of shimmer, the other a fairly standard bronzish metallic shimmer. I found this less boring than the other collections lately. For some reason I am really taken with the brown paper bag color of the light brown, called, of course "Brown Bag". Somehow it strikes me as very stylish. So I got it and I like it. It feels very au courant as MAC says. Though frankly even thinking the words au courant makes me feel like such an asshole.

I didn't bother with the bronze lacquer, called Originality, as it isn't. At all. In fact they seem to forget MAC Mercenary, released just last year, is very like it!! Did someone get amnesia? I mean they aren't exact dupes but come on.

MAC Brown Bag. Actually not too wildly different from Essie Uptown Taupe, if you have that. Brown Bag is warmer than Uptown Taupe though, and UT has a silver shimmer not a goldish one. So they are like cold/warm sisters.:

MAC Blue India

I haven't had much good to say about MAC polish since the Style Black Collection. A few collections have come and gone without me mentioning them, because they were frankly boring crap.

But I picked up MAC Blue India from the Give Me Liberty of London Collection and I really like it. It's a great blue/Grey creme, One coat perfect, and I don't have anything like it! A winner! The other polish in this collection is Vestral White, a boring rerelease. If you can't find WHITE CREME cheaper than this, turn in your polish brush, please.

New MAC Magic, Mirth and Mischief Holiday 2009 Nail Lacquers

These came out two weeks ago. I got them one week ago. You'll notice I didn't rush to bring you a post like I usually do with new MACs. That's because in an already lackluster nail lacquer year for MAC, this is probably the most unoriginal, boring "collection" yet. Two streaky metallic frosts in silver and pink is what MAC gives us for a holiday we already know has some spectacular offerings to compete with. Gee, thanks. I'll keep my $12.00 plus tax. Who fell asleep after Style Black???

MAC Style Black Polishes!

Okay yeah the world has had black polishes forevah! But luckily MAC brought, finally, some real thought and excitement to its polish this year. I love pretty much the whole Style Black collection, and will post about it later, but for now you need to see the polishes and buy them before they go away, and believe me these WILL go fast.

MAC Nocturnelle, glossy black jelly. No surprises here except for the fact it's a jelly not a creme. Who woke up to realize jellies exist?? A little hard to work with, and it bubbled and stained me a bit. I prefer China Glaze Liquid Leather. But this isn't a ripoff or anything, like most of the Trend Fall/Winter colors were.
MAC Nocturnelle

MAC Seriously Hip is like they took my beloved OPI At Your Quebec & Call, made the shimmer grain larger, and dipped it in black jelly. FINALLY something new and exciting!! All is forgiven, MAC, come here and let me kiss you.
MAC Seriously Hip

MAC Baby Goth Girl is another riff on the red-in-black-jelly idea, this time with a deeper more purplish wine red instead of a ruby red sequin feel. This is also a shimmer not a glitter. This makes it deeper, more sophisticated, yet no less sexy and shimmery than the ruby reds. And it was so easy to work with this is only one coat! Dunno about the name, this is not Baby anything, this is a hot woman who gets what she wants. I absolutely love it. SO Vampire. I want to see Eric wearing it.

MAC Nail Trend Fall/Winter 2009 Nail Lacquers

MAC is easily my favorite makeup. For eyeshadow, blush, lipstick, range of great colors, pigments, glitters, I just can't think of anyone who comes close. I LOVE them. But MAC seems to treat nail polish as a kind of off the cuff item. Their nail polish is not up to the standards of their other items, and it seems to be designed by a sad lonely team in the basement who never get the stimulation the lipstick and eye people get. Mineralize eyeshadow versus their lacquer? Come on. I do not know if all of these are new or rereleases.

Anyway they ARE my favorite brand of makeup so I will always give their nail lacquer a try. This collection is a sedate, darker collection of cremes, and is far better than the offerings from the rest of the year. It's not going to set anything on fire, but it's a sort of "I'm a powerful businesswoman" sort of collection, certainly a lot sleeker and more sophisticated that the rest of the minimal turnouts from earlier in the year. Though having said that it's by no means a slamdunk palette with no problems. The formula spreads easily, though may need a few drops of thinner. It covers well in two coats, using only one can be streaky and leave sheer areas.

Six shades were released today. Let's have a look. If you like any, run out tomorrow or buy online tonight, because as usual they will probably run out in record time.

MAC Cool Reserve is a sort of taupe with a bit of grape thrown in:
MAC Cool Reserve

MAC Rich, Dark, Delicious is an almost dark chocolate creme, it's way too dark for milk, too light really for true dark chocolate. This actually has an opalescent shimmer in it, you can see it in the bottle in the picture. But on, it does not show. It's just too little in amount and size.:
MAC Rich, Dark, Delicious

MAC Beyond Jealous, the dark forest green creme everyone was waiting for, seriously might as well be black. There is no jelly quality to this, so no lighter areas on the edges and top that let you know this is green. Maybe sunlight helps but I am doubting it.:
MAC Beyond Jealous

MAC For Fun is a simple sort of Tyrian purple creme we have all seen before. It's nice, though unoriginal.:
MAC For Fun

MAC Dance All Night is probably the most thoughtful addition to the collection. It's a dark brick red, that while amazingly badly named (who dances all night in brick red creme nail polish???) manages to be intriguing and sophisticated. My pick of the litter.:
MAC Dance All Night

MAC Dry Martini is an olive brown creme that looks like you just changed a baby's diaper. It's utterly incomprehensible to me.:

Don't forget the MAC Friends and Family Sale!!

25% off with the code SUMO! https://www.maccosmetics.com/

You can probably snag the new polishes. And some of the old boring ones. And some of the new Naked Honey Collection. Why no hot amber/honey colored polish, maybe a glitter? MAC needs a polish consultant. But I looooooove everything else about them.

New MAC Style Warrior Polishes!

I picked up the three new Style Warrior polishes from MAC's new collection today. Style Warrior seems to be based on strong earth colors and bronzers. While I was not too excited by the collection, or the tanning mousse (darkest one just even now at beginning of summer only gives me a tad of color and later won't do anything) I bought the polishes to try. I have the weird clumpy Solar Bits from last year, and frankly they are not my first choice in any situation, their size and kind of stickiness make them hard to use.

Anyway onto the polishes. Peaceable is a sand colored frost. At $11.00 per bottle I'd sooner get cheaper boring workplace polish. Violet Fire is a sort of very subdued violet purple shimmer. It's kind of smooth and satiny, there's no big bits, it's kinda like just a general shine. I dunno but I suspect this is a rerelease? The last one is a bronze shimmer called Mercenary, which sparkled rainbow in stronger light and sunlight. In my opinion it's the highlight of the collection.

So make your choices, or choices not to buy soon! Likely these will fly out the door too fast like all other MAC limiteds.

New MAC Rose Romance Limited Polish!

I swung by the mall today, to be greeted by a new MAC polish! Love & Friendship is a creme in the Rose Romance collection, a sort of dusty lavender grape color. It's a bit thick, but a drop of Poshe Polish Reviver should take care of it. It has nice coverage and I actually quite like it! It's chic and summery without being too pastel.

Buy before it sells out, like the Sugarsweet polishes.

Forget about what you think you know about life, about friendship, and especially about you and me.

MAC SugarSweet Polishes - Peppermint Patti and Seasonal Peach

Sure, I'll blog about these as people are all abuzz about them right now. I think I bought these the day after they came out, pretty much only to send to Carla. She was on vacation and I wanted to make sure she had them. She kindly let me swatch them and off they went to her.

The formula is "meh". It's a bit thick, it spreads indifferently, and it takes three coats to get a nice even coverage, and it leaves thin areas. And let's be honest MAC makes demand for its polish, like some other products, by only making a very limited run and discontinuing things quickly. This polish was sold out online in like what, two days? My MAC girl told me they sent her store NINE bottles of Peppermint Patti. What kind of business does this?? Are they feeling bad for eBay resellers or something? Patti is up for $25 right now. Okay yes, everyone knows the world HAS gone crazy lately, but sheesh let's get a grip here.

Seriously, though, these polishes are boring to me. I have seen better greens, and better peaches. These colors make me think of dresses bridesmaids might have worn to Elvis' wedding - everyone in chalky pastels and women all had beehives, and wore pale frosty lipstick. I am very glad Carla gave them a warm place to nestle, as I hated the retro looking stuff. Give me a polish that doesn't say "If you boys need little old me to make you a drink I'll be inside in pearls and heels, vacuuming."
