Paul Wright sees good results at skiing events

BEDEQUE – Bedeque’s Paul Wright, a P.E.I. masters cross-country skier, enjoyed some fine results during this past season in some of North America’s biggest races.
At the Sparkling Hill Masters World Cup at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Club in Vernon, B.C., Wright competed in the 50-54 masters age bracket, and his best race was the 45-km classic, where he was the seventh-placed Canadian and 20th overall in the field of 36.
Wright also competed in the 10-km event, where he was ranked ninth among the Canadians and 30th overall. He also competed in the 30-km race, where he was again Canada’s seventh-place finisher, and 21st overall.
“I was very pleased with the longer race, as everything came together that day,“ said Wright. “I had a good position and good wax, and it was definitely my best race.
“I stumbled early on in the 30 km and couldn’t really recover, but it was nicer to finish strong. Overall I was pleased with my racing.”
The World Cup also served as the Canadian championships, and attracted skiers from all over the world.
Wright also had a good series of results at the Gatineau Loppet last month. In the 28-km classic, Wright was 15th overall in a field of over 200, and third in his age 50-54 category. In the freestyle event over the same distance, he was 57th overall and seventh in his category.
